What made you become an artist and How long have you been drawing and creating?
Hi my name is Lynne and I live in a small coastal town on the Great Ocean Rd in Victoria. For as long as I can remember I have loved to create art. When I was as young as 16 my favourite thing to do was to go to the local Op shop and upcycle cotton windcheaters. I would dye them and then create artworks on them with fabric paint. So fabric paint was my favourite medium back then. This then lead me to create art on cotton shoes. Pottery at school was my absolute favourite subject, so from painting fabric this then lead me to want to try to create patterns on porcelain and glass. Back those days I could only find glass paint which needed to be baked to seal it. It never gave me the satisfaction of a good finished product. My sister and I would go to the local market to sell my art creations and her earrings. I continued to create art but it wasn't until my children grew up that I began to have time again.
What brought you to draw on glassware and What do you love about Posca markers compared to other mediums?
I then started painting on old wine bottles as I loved the idea of upcycling. Creating something old into something new! So through experimenting I discovered I could seal the glass with primer which gave me a good surface to draw on and add acrylic paint for pattern and then I found posca markers which changed my art completely. They gave me the freedom to create the perfect details and give my art my own style. They were just things I had been looking for. For that extra professional finish I would then seal them for a gorgeous shine. I had found the perfect way to make art on glass! Thanks, Posca! This then led me to paint on wine glasses something that lots of people love. What's better than unique usable art? Lots of customised glasses with names and numbers with my patterns to adorn them became popular as birthday gifts. Double walled coffee cups work a treat also. The sky's the limit and the list goes on. Now I paint and create on just about anything from Ukuleles, terracotta pots, surfboards, canvases, Christmas baubles. I even upcycled an old reading lamp which turned out pretty funky.
What have you been creating at the moment?
I get so much pleasure from living by the ocean, the waves, the cliff edges and the colours of my surroundings inspire me so much. I have always been a lover of Aztec art. Their patterns, colour and designs are just so wonderful. Needless to say, Ocean Aztec Designs was born!
I have never sold my art as a business and it has always just been my hobby! I am always happy to take orders and you can find me on Instagram and Facebook under Ocean Aztec Designs. I love creating my art for gifts for my friends and family. I find a lot of earthy colours are popular and wave inspired patterns with blue tones are a favourite.
Life is so fun when you create usable art or any art for that matter. It's great for my heart and my soul. So thank you Posca for giving me a medium that gives me a chance to have the freedom to add amazing colour choices and detail to my artwork .
