Meet the Artist: Lynne Willox

What inspired you to become an artist?

Hi! My name is Lynne, and I live in a small coastal town along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. I have always loved creating art, and my journey began at just 16 years old when I discovered upcycling at my local Op Shop.

I started by dyeing cotton windcheaters and painting designs on them with fabric paints, which eventually led me to decorate cotton shoes. My love for patterns and colour continued to grow, and in school, I fell in love with pottery. That passion for experimenting eventually brought me to glass and porcelain art, but back then, the only options were bake-to-seal glass paints, which didn’t provide the smooth, professional finish I was looking for.

After years of exploring different mediums, I finally discovered Posca markers, and they completely transformed my artistic process! 

What do you love about Posca markers?

I began painting old wine bottles as part of my love for upcycling. Giving something old a new life through art has always been my passion.

Through trial and error, I found that by sealing the glass with a primer, I could create the perfect surface to draw on with Posca markers. They were exactly what I had been searching for! Their smooth application, precise details, and vibrant colours allowed me to develop my unique artistic style.

Using Posca markers, I started customising wine glasses, creating beautiful, personalised gifts with names, numbers, and intricate patterns. The fact that these pieces were usable and unique made them so special. My creativity expanded to painting on double-walled coffee cups, terracotta pots, ukuleles, surfboards, and even Christmas baubles! The possibilities are truly endless!

What are you creating at the moment?

Living by the ocean is my biggest inspiration. The waves, cliffs, and natural surroundings influence my art every day. I have always been drawn to Aztec art, and its patterns and vibrant colours have greatly shaped my designs—leading to the creation of Ocean Aztec Designs!

Although I have never sold my art as a business, I love taking custom orders and creating meaningful gifts for my friends and family. You can find my latest creations on Instagram and Facebook under Ocean Aztec Designs.

My most popular designs feature earthy tones, blue ocean-inspired colour palettes, and intricate wave patterns. Creating art is truly a passion for my heart and soul, and Posca markers give me the freedom to bring my ideas to life with rich colour choices and fine detailing.
